The Lonnie Nolta Scholarship Award
Lonnie Nolta was a tireless educator, and registered lobbyist in California advocating for the needs of dependent adults with developmental disabilities and elderly persons. Previously operating a foster care home and then a residential care home for dependent adults, she rose to the need of doing more for the most as an educator-lobbyist in Sacramento. She served as the lead educator for the Residential Care Society, and co-founded the annual Fun in the Sun Continuing Care Conferences in Hawaii. She passed away from a heart attack unexpectedly in 2004. Her only wish was that people might remember that she made a difference. Indeed, she made a tremendous difference! This scholarship honors her memory and contributions to the promotion of excellence in residential care.

The Leonard and Hazel Maudens Scholarship Award
The story of Leonard and Hazel Maudens is in the information “About the Foundation.” To repeat Mr. Maudens’ own words:
“so that those who follow do not have to endure any unnecessary hardships associated with debilitating diseases. I envision a campaign of education and recognition to preserve the dignity and quality of life of those of us in our final years. Towards that end, I establish the Maudens-Wintz Foundation.”
The award will include a certificate of achievement and a scholarship. Nominees must be named by a professional colleague or their employer and must have a minimum of 5 years of recent professional experience providing care to elderly persons in a California licensed residential care home.
